Terms of Service

Summary

Komaru Anti-Slop Guardian is a pattern-matching tool that flags AI-slop patterns in writing. The Free tier is open to anyone. Pro ($9/month) and Bundle ($39 one-time) are paid licenses for premium features. Payments are processed by LemonSqueezy as Merchant of Record. By using the service, you agree to these terms.

1. Definitions

• "Service" — the Komaru Anti-Slop Guardian web filter, premium features, and related materials.
• "You" / "User" — any person who accesses or uses the Service.
• "Komaru" / "We" / "Our" — the solo project operated under the Komaru pseudonym, based in Hà Nội, Vietnam.
• "LemonSqueezy" — our Merchant of Record (MoR) partner that processes payments and handles tax compliance.
• "Content" — the text drafts you submit to the filter.

2. Service description

Komaru flags AI-slop patterns (banned phrases, em-dash overuse, parallel triples, generic openers, structural fingerprints) in user-submitted text drafts. The filter is rule-based pattern matching, not LLM-based AI detection.

The Service does NOT claim to detect AI-generated content with any guaranteed accuracy. It flags patterns that frequently appear in AI output. Final judgment is yours.

3. License grant

3.1 Free tier

Komaru grants you a non-exclusive, revocable, royalty-free license to use the Free tier web filter for any lawful purpose, subject to rate limits (5,000 characters per check, 10 checks per day per IP). No account or payment required.

3.2 Pro subscription ($9/month)

On payment via LemonSqueezy, Komaru grants you a non-exclusive license to use Pro features (premium phrases library, custom rule sets per project, API access) for the duration of your subscription. First month is free. You may cancel any time via the LemonSqueezy customer portal. Cancellation stops future billing but does not refund the current billing period (see Refund Policy).

3.3 Bundle ($39 one-time)

On purchase via LemonSqueezy, Komaru grants you a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use Filter Pro lifetime, the 50 banned phrases doc, the 30 voice-preserving prompts pack, and the Substack growth guide. The license is non-transferable.

3.4 What you may NOT do

• Resell, sublicense, or redistribute Pro / Bundle materials
• Reverse-engineer the proprietary phrase library
• Share account credentials with people outside your immediate team
• Use the Service to facilitate plagiarism, fraud, or harassment
• Submit illegal content, malware, or content that violates third-party rights

4. Your content

You retain all rights, ownership, and responsibility for the text drafts you submit to the filter. Komaru does not claim ownership of your content and does not store drafts after the filter run completes.

You grant Komaru a temporary, limited license to process your draft for the sole purpose of running the filter and returning the result to you. This license terminates the moment the filter run completes.

5. Komaru's intellectual property

Komaru retains all rights to:

• The brand name "Komaru" and "Anti-Slop Guardian"
• The proprietary premium phrases library (Pro / Bundle)
• The 30 voice-preserving prompts (Bundle)
• The Substack growth guide (Bundle)

The base engine rules (50+ regex patterns) are open on GitHub under their own license. See github.com/komarununi/anti-slop-guardian.

6. Acceptable use

You agree NOT to:

• Use the Service in any way that violates law in your jurisdiction
• Attempt to bypass rate limits or authentication
• Submit content that infringes copyright, trademark, or other third-party rights
• Use the Service to harass, defame, or threaten any person
• Submit drafts that contain malware, exploits, or malicious payloads
• Misrepresent your identity or impersonate another person
• Scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract data from the Service in bulk without permission

Violation of acceptable use is grounds for immediate account termination without refund.

7. Payment, billing, and Merchant of Record

All payments are processed by LemonSqueezy, which acts as our Merchant of Record (MoR). This means LemonSqueezy is the party that sells you the license and is responsible for:

• Collecting and remitting VAT, sales tax, and other taxes in your jurisdiction
• Issuing receipts and invoices
• Handling chargebacks and payment disputes
• PCI compliance for card data

Your contractual relationship for payment is with LemonSqueezy. Your contractual relationship for the Service itself is with Komaru.

Pro subscriptions auto-renew monthly until cancelled. You may cancel any time via the LemonSqueezy customer portal. Bundle is a one-time purchase with no renewal.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranty of any kind, express or implied.

Komaru does not warrant that:

• The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
• The filter will catch every AI pattern in every draft
• The Service is free from bugs, viruses, or vulnerabilities
• Results from the Service will meet your specific requirements

The filter is a tool to assist editors. It is not a substitute for human judgment.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Komaru's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to the Service is limited to the greater of:

• The amount you paid to LemonSqueezy for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim, OR
• USD $50

Komaru is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, or business interruption, even if Komaru has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

10. Termination

Your termination: You may stop using the Free tier at any time. For Pro, cancel via the LemonSqueezy customer portal; access continues until end of the current billing period. For Bundle, the perpetual license remains valid; you may simply stop using the Service.

Our termination: Komaru may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, engage in fraud or abuse, or if continued service becomes commercially unviable. Termination for breach is without refund. Termination for our convenience entitles you to a pro-rated refund of unused Pro subscription fees.

11. Changes to the Service and these Terms

Komaru may modify the Service or these Terms over time. Material changes will be announced via the newsletter and a banner on the landing page at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you disagree, you may cancel and stop using the Service before the effective date.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms shall be resolved by arbitration or, where arbitration is not available, in the courts of Hà Nội, Vietnam.

For payment and tax disputes, your contractual relationship with LemonSqueezy is governed by LemonSqueezy's own terms, which may specify a different jurisdiction.

Consumer protection: If you are a consumer in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer protection law, nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any rights you have under that law.

13. Severability and entire agreement

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. These Terms (together with the Privacy Policy and Refund Policy) constitute the entire agreement between you and Komaru regarding the Service.
